For over 20 years, I've been writing strategic copy for global brands including Target, Best Buy, Sony, Boston Scientific, Ecolab, 3M, The Ritz-Carlton, and more. I've also written for nonprofits and startups.
I'm passionate about creating content that helps organizations authentically engage target audiences while also meeting their business goals. I love using plain language, audience research, human-centered design thinking, and data insights to design and write impactful content.
Below are some writing samples. If you don't see the industry or content type you're looking for, contact me. I have plenty of other samples in my archives and am happy to provide them. Just ask!
When Ecolab acquired Bioquell, a company that makes decontamination equipment for hospitals and labs, they also inherited their old website. I was hired by digital agency Cimarron Winter to migrate Bioquell content to Ecolab. But it wasn't a simple lift-and-shift.
Ecolab has different legal and regulatory requirements than Bioquell did. And the legacy website wasn't highlighting all of the great benefits and differentiators as much as they could. I collaborated with Bioquell subject matter experts to surface the benefits that hospital and lab administrators would be looking for. In partnership with Cimarron Winter, I wrote new pages that better communicated Bioquell's value while meeting Ecolab's legal and regulatory standards.
The hotel company hired Brain Traffic, who hired me, to write content for a new website for their Dove Mountain property near Tucson, AZ. The goal was to create website content that was both informative and transportive—inviting prospective guests to imagine themselves experiencing the resort.
Located on 850 acres of the high Sonoran Desert near Tucson, Arizona, The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain embodies the spirit of adventure. The surrounding Saguaro cacti forest, Wild Burro Canyon, and Tortolita Mountains invite travelers to explore on a guided hike, bike ride, or horseback—or enjoy the majestic views from a guest room balcony.
The hotel architecture and décor reflects the Southwestern landscape, cultures and history, including genuine Hohokam Indian artifacts. Ranked the #1 hotel in Arizona by Travel & Leisure magazine, The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain offers adventure, comfort, and legendary service.
Boston Scientific's Close the Gap campaign aimed to raise awareness of heart health among people of color. I partnered with digital agency King Content to create daily posts for Twitter and Facebook. Working from a monthly editorial calendar, I researched health topics and translated them into concise, engaging posts designed to inform, connect with, and motivate the audience—all within the constraints of social media.
Capella University hired me to write monthly blog posts to both nurture prospective students and engage current ones. The process of creating each post began with an interview with the subject matter expert(s) to gather source content. I then translated that expertise into polished, accessible posts.
In 2017, there were an estimated 46.6 million adults in the United States with mental illness. This number represents 18.9% of all U.S. adults.
Often, people with mental health issues can feel like it's their fault. They might think that having mental illness means they're "crazy," or fear that others will see them that way. They may worry that they'll be shunned by family and friends or that admitting there's a problem will invite discrimination at work. So they keep the struggle to themselves, hoping it will go away on its own. But without treatment, mental illness can wreak havoc on a career and relationships. It can even turn life-threatening.
"A huge part of the stigma is it's not a visible disorder, and mental health treatment hasn't been understood by the public," says Simone Lambert, PhD, Capella counseling faculty member and President of the American Counseling Association. "There is concern that reaching out for help might be a sign of weakness. Actually, asking for help is a sign of strength. People may believe that if they seek a diagnosis, that diagnosis will define them. In reality, that allows them to receive accurate treatment."
Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of.
It's common and treatable. Here's how students and faculty in online counseling degree programs at Capella University are working to break the stigma of mental illness.
